Our Post Secondary Program
MFNEC Post-Secondary Services supports Moosomin First Nation members as they pursue post-secondary education, technical training, and career pathways. Guided by our Treaty and Inherent Right to Education, MFNEC is responsible for supporting the post-secondary and technical training needs of Moosomin First Nation Band Members.
Our Post-Secondary office helps students with information, guidance, applications, education planning, sponsorship supports, and connections to programs and services that help students succeed. Whether students are entering university, college, trades, technical training, or adult learning pathways, MFNEC is here to help members take the next step in their education journey.
Education is part of who we are as nehiyawak people. Through post-secondary support, MFNEC works to help students build the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed in school, in their careers, in the community, and wherever their path takes them.

Post Secondary Services
Tuition and Student Fees
MFNEC tuition support includes compulsory student fees charged by the institution. Support may be provided to eligible Moosomin First Nation citizens attending an eligible post-secondary institution.
Application Fees and Transcript Fees
MFNEC will reimburse an application fee for an approved student from the post-secondary institution they are attending on a one-time basis.
Official transcript fees may also be reimbursed when a student is required to provide official transcripts to another organization, with proof of purchase and requirement verification.
Certification or Examination Fees
MFNEC will pay certification or examination fees that are required by the post-secondary institution to complete the program.
Books and Supplies
Books and supplies are provided with documentation, as a requirement of the program.
A book allowance of $500.00 per semester will be added to cover the cost of textbooks.
Required books that exceed $500.00 per semester may be reimbursed with supporting documentation, including receipts and a required book list.
Approved students may also receive a one-time laptop allowance provided by MFNEC.
Students required to attend culture camp may be supported with a $500.00 allowance to purchase needed supplies with class registration confirmation.
Practicum Assistance
A grant of $250.00 per semester may be provided to help with practicum costs upon confirmation of practicum placement.
The practicum must be a required part of the student’s program of studies.
Living Expenses
Living expenses are provided to a full-time student as determined by their post-secondary institution.
Students with dependents must provide a current Canada Child Benefit notice, or other accepted documentation, with their application.

Childcare Support
A full-time student will receive a flat rate for childcare of $50.00 per month per dependent age 0–5 for childcare services.
Travel Support
Travel support may be provided in the following cases:
- $100.00 one time per academic year for a student required to move to their post-secondary institution at the beginning of their program
- Travel required due to practicum or field placement
- Travel home during the December holidays at a flat rate when the student is not a permanent resident of where they live
Bereavement travel is not eligible. Travel support does not include moving expenses.
Tutorial Support
Supplement tutorial guidance may be supported with proper documentation from the instructor or professor.
Students must submit a tutor request in writing to the Post-Secondary Coordinator. Tutorial payments are made directly to the tutor and paid at fair market value.
Guidance and Counselling Support
Guidance and counselling services are provided by most post-secondary institutions.
The Post-Secondary Coordinator may provide additional information upon request or for advocacy purposes if required.
Graduation Awards
Graduation awards are provided on a one-time basis for each category. Proof of completion must be provided from the academic institution before funds are released.
